Dear & Yonder Screening at Paradise

Attention all water women: the highly anticipated all-female surf movie Dear & Yonder will hit the big screen at Paradise Surf Shop on Dec. 5 at 6pm.

Directed and produced by Tiffany Campbell and Andria Lessler, Dear & Yonder chronicles the lives and surfing adventures of a dynamic cast of women wave riders, from top professionals like Stephanie Gilmore and Sofia Mulanovich to Santa Cruz’ own surfer-shaper Ashley Lloyd. While all these women come from diverse backgrounds, they are united by adventurous spirits and a deep connection with the ocean. The film goes beyond your average surf movie by cultivating a sense of place, rooting the scenes in the rich history of female surfing and by encouraging environmental sustainability both in the water and on land.

“I wanted the film to have more of a documentary-style story telling aspect,” says Campbell, “ so I looked for women who had interesting lives outside of surfing who were also exceptional water women.”

Campbell and Lessler spent three years traveling and shooting the film in the green liquid caves of Indonesia, at the perfect point breaks of mainland Mexico and out to sea with Captain Liz Clark, who relied solely on wind power and her own wits to sail the world in search of epic waves and a greater connection to the earth.

The opening reception will begin at 6pm followed by live music provided by San Jose’s The Mumlers. The film will premiere around 8pm with an intro by Campbell and a Question and Answer segment after the screening. Tickets are $10 to help with remaining production costs. Buy them in advance at Paradise Surf Shop or on the night of the event.

Come experience the depth and beauty of Dear & Yonder as it moves you to bring positivity back into your communities and home breaks.

“Dear and Yonder is our way to give something back to the thing we love,” Campbell says.
